When IDEA X is going to be released? Should I buy IDEA 9 or wait for IDEA X?

My company is going to buy IDEA 9 licenses for all our java developers. Right now I use EAP of IDEA X. But I don't know when it should be released.
Will we need to buy/upgrade licenses when IDEA X is released? Is it better to wait for IDEA X?

The pragmatic way would be to have all developers using the EAP until X is released.
My experience is that EAP versions are reliable enough to use for productive work.
(I usually install a new EAP right when its released, and after using it successfully for a day my co-workers update, too.)

JetBrains might of course suggest buying a 9 version now and an upgrade later ;)

Hello Alexey,

IntelliJ IDEA 10 will be released before the end of 2010. If you buy a license
for IntelliJ IDEA 9 right now, you'll need to pay the for the upgrade when
IntelliJ IDEA 10 is released.

I just purchased 9.0.3 two days ago.  I thought that the license included updates for a year...sadly it only includes "minor" updates. :(  I guess I should have read the license more carefully.  While it stinks that I'll have to pay for the upgrade after only a couple of months of use, I guess I don't mind spending the extra money if it means we all get a better product in the end.  I have only used IDEA for a month, but I really like it so far.

Here's to hoping IDEA X rocks!  :)

I'd personally go for the EAP for now. Depending on how long you have to wait, the other option is to run 9 for a month or so until the licence expires. I too am sick of the cost of upgrading when most of the features seem to be performance fixes.
