Multiple version control systems--why?

I'm curious why, if I'm working in a project configured to use Perforce,
there are commands on the File menu related to CVS and Subversion--and
why Perforce is relegated to a submenu of the Version Control menu. Is
this temporary? It seems to me there should be one uniform interface to
the VCS system. There certainly shouldn't be multiple places to look for
VCS commands.

The problem is those commands are named differently sometimes (Commit,
Check In, etc.)
