backward compatibility in new EAP
Ok, right now I'm too excited/scared to actually run the new EAP. So a question to you brave souls out there:
Will this run happily side by side with IDEA 4? Any precautions/caveats/hints?

I'd recommend to setup different caches directory for Irida since format
of the caches have been changed and that'll take some time to switch
between versions otherwise.
Some plugins might have been broken as well so it make sense to set them
up into a different folder.
Haven't expected any problems with config so far.

Can we get a "bleeding" indicator? I would rather not have 2 installs.
I can probably take a paper cut or two, but possible loss of a leg
(especially the third) would definitely justify a second install.

Working ok on Win2K right now.
Ill check it out on Linux tomorrow.

Hello Norris,
I have downloaded/installed no JRE package and unable to startup... I get a SecurityException: Prohibited package name: java.lang. Nothing works after that....
thanks,

Did you took the idea.sh script from the installation? One should have
-Xbootclasspath entry.

Wait for a released version then. Or at least for a milestone build
which we hope to ship in two weeks.

Hello Maxim,
It worked with Xbootclasspath, I was using IDEA_VM_ARG env variable from previous setting which did not have this ....
Thanks,

Too late. I had to have my IntelliJ fix. Looks OK so far on W2K pro.
Some minor stuff. Will file bugs.

What about the project files? Can a project that has been opened in Irida
be successfully opened by 4.5.x again (i.e. with no or just little problems)?
If still possible right now, is there an expected change in the project file
format that would break 4.5.x?

I had the same problem when starting idea.exe on my XP machine. The problem was that the idea.lax file contained the option -Xbootclasspath/p:C:
Program Files
Irida/lib/boot.jar in the line starting with lax.nl.java.option.additional. Changing that to -Xbootclasspath/p:"C:
Program Files
Irida/lib/boot.jar" fixed it.
JB, could you make sure the installer correctly puts quotes around that path in future builds?

3075 on Linux (X86) wont start up here.
Apart from the libypjagent.so not found, which I can work around by removing it, I get screenfulls of exceptions dumps on startup similar to:
java.lang.SecurityException: Prohibited package name java.lang
This is a clean install, with separate config/projects/installation directories.
Ive spent 30 mins on it this morning, Im going to wait until the next EAP comes out.
3075 installs on Windows ok for me, but there are several crashes on project open/close (logged already), so I wouldnt consider this for anything right now.
You need to do what Maxim suggested in the community forum ...
http://www.intellij.net/forums/thread.jsp?forum=27&thread=112657
It ate mine. Had to restore project files from backups.
Except J2EE based projects.
J2EE debugging/run/deployment/whatever is broken - Im unable to run any J2EE project in Irida.
Dropping back to 4.5.2, the project files have been modified ( the App server settings are no longer working), and after fixing those, Im getting "class not found errors" in deployed EJBs from a project that was working last night (and has worked for 6 weeks) in 4.5.2.
Something else is screwed up in there, and Im having a tough time figuring it out - the alledged missing class is deployed - the only thing that has changed is a 5.x import, then a roll back to 4.5.2
Nick
I have a web app application with 6 web modules and a couple of source modules. Once the project had been loaded in Irida, 4.5.2 simply refused to open the project again. I did set up separate caches etc. for the two versions so that they would not clash.
Ok, the "solution" to my J2EE project rollback from 3075 to 2245 was to delete and recreate the EJB and APP projects.
Touch wood, everything is working again now.
J2EE projects are a no-go with Irida. {:-)
we all know the first thing that breaks in EAP is anything J2EE. heh
I believe the cache directory is setup during the install, but I'm not sure how I change the plugin folder. Anybody know?
Tobin
By default, the plugin directory goes inside the config dir, so if you don't share the config dir, you shouldn't have to do anything.
If you really have to, there's a plugin parameter (-D intellij.plugin... or something like it) in idea.lax/idea.bat that you can change.
delete and recreate the EJB and APP projects.
Hey were did you get 2245? :)
Vince.
