IntelliJ IDEA version 8.1.3

I'm using Intellij version 8.1.3 and the performance is pretty bad with it.  When I open up my project it sometimes takes 5\10 minutes at a window
called "Parsing File, please wait....".  In the "parsing files" window, it displays folders\files that I don't believe it should be parsing,

The second issue I have is later when I'm doing development within the IDE it occassionally comes up with a similar window as above and takes quite
some time to finish out, believe that window is titled "Index files..." and it also seems to be indexing files that I don't think it should be indexing.

With the 2nd problem is it possible to somehow tell the IDE (via a config file) to exclude\ignore files and directories?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Wes

Hello Wesley,

You can use the File | Project Structure dialog to mark certain directories
as excluded from the project. Then they won't be visible in the Project view
and won't be indexed.
