idea.log

After installing a plugin using the built-in plugin browser tool, IDEA now refuses to start with the message:
"Fatal error initializing class com.intellij.util.indexing.FileBasedIndex:java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError. Complete error stacktrace was written to idea.log"

Can anyone please help me resolve this? Where is idea.log located on OSX and can the contents of the dump really help me?

J

Thanks Maxim. That solved my problem. The log file/directory isn't there any more, but then I'll know where to look the next time.

Any suggestion how I can add the Lua plugin without this happening or is the plugin defect?

This is most likely plugin problem caused by compiling it with JDK 1.6
and by default IDEA runs on MacOSX with JDK 1.5 (but we need idea.log
for exact cause).
If you have Java 6 on the Mac (newer Mac (Leopard + Core Duo 2 or
better) or using Snow Leopard) you can force IDEA to use JDK 1.6
(http://jetbrains.net/devnet/docs/DOC-197).

Hi Maxim,

The same problem happened to me after installling DatabaseNavigator on an eval version of IDEA 9.0.2 on OS X (Snow Leopard).
I am new to Mac, so probably have done something wrong.
After installation DBNAvigator did not show up in plugins folder, and IDEA can't start giving the message in Jen's original post.
I deleted Intellij from Applications (moved to Trash), reinstalled it from the previously downloaded package, but it still crashes with the same error when tries to start.
Unfortunately there is no folder ~/Library/Application Suppport/IntelliJIDEA90 on this Mac. :(
Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
-Pavel
