Slow printing due to rectangular border?

I printed some code in IntelliJ IDEA and man talk about extremely slow printing. But the code printed with a large rectangular box around the code and I'm thinking that is what may have caused the slow printing. I've been looking for a way to shut that box off but have not turned up anything.

Is there a way to tell IntelliJ IDEA to print your code without that rectangular border around it?

Hello Tim,

Please provide screenshot for that situation, namely, IDEA editor with text surrounded by border - it's not clear what border you are talking about  at the moment.

I can't provide a screenshot because there does not appear to be a print preview button anywhere. I don't know how else I could show the printed page. But the software prints a rectangular border that surrounds the code inside. I think this is the reason just printing a simple Hello World program takes minutes and minutes of printing.

Oh, I didn't realise that you talked about actual printing the code from IDEA, I thought you had a border inside IDEA editor during usual code editing.

Please provide information about your OS and printer type then, we'll try to reproduce it locally.

Another question is how did you measure printing speed? Did you try to print the same source file from third-party editor and compare the speed with printing under IDEA?

I'm on Windows XP Professional SP2. My printer is a Hewlett Packard Photosmart C4180. As far as printing speed goes I've printed source code from many other IDE's and editors and all of them are faster. But I think the reason for the slow printing is due to that border that encloses the code on the paper. Seems to me that would cause the printer to have to take a lot more time to draw.

Can you provide any numbers about printing at your environment? I mean average page print time of the same file from IDEA and other editor?

I'm trying understand how serious is printing time gap at your machine.

Problem solved. In the print menu there is a box called Print Border. That was checked and as I stated it really slowed the printer down. I unchecked the box and printing is quite a bit faster now. But generally speaking I've noticed that this software takes longer to load than other Java IDE's.

Cool, forgot about that option.
