Forcing update via patch system

Hi there,

I'm at a place who has a long review cycle when downloading any *.exe from the internet.

I can see that IntelliJ can automatically apply a patch when moving from a minor version however I'm now two minors versions behind. This means I'm only presented with the download version.

Is there some way I can force IntelliJ to apply its patch to move from the Community Edition 9.0 to 9.0.1 and then use the internal auto update to move from 9.0.1 to 9.0.2?

Hi Patrick,

Please clarify if you need exact '9.0 -> 9.0.1 -> 9.0.2' transition or '9.0 -> ... -> 9.0.2' with any intermediate steps (or no steps at all) is enough?

Have you tried to perform the following action from IDEA - 'Main menu -> Help -> Check for Update'?

Thanks for the response. Ideally I would like to move from IntelliJ CE 9.0 to 9.0.2 without using an *.exe installer. I'd like to do it via whatever automatic update/patching system is built into IntelliJ. I can't download *.exe for reasons stated in the previous thread.

I heard that you can move from IntelliJ 9.0 to 9.0.1 and 9.0.1 to 9.0.2 via this patching process.

Doing what you suggested "main menu -> help -> check for update" brings me back to downloading the full installer (something I am unable to do at my workplace at the moment and will for organisational reasons takes a long time (1 month+) to get approved).

Btw, are there any restrictions for you to download not *.exe but *.tar.gz file? I.e. you can get that archive and unpack it to IDEA installation directory. That will produce the same result as IDEA auto-update system execution.

Yes, it looks like I can download the *.tar.gz files. Where would I find the 9.0.1 patch and 9.0.2 patches?
