Constant java.io.IOException: Invalid argument from terminal in Ubuntu 9.10

Test driving Intellij Idea on Ubuntu 9.10 (pretty fresh) and I'm getting lots of errors.

1) Constant Exceptions from IDEA. This showed up on my console (due to size and lack of code box put on pastebin): http://pastebin.com/G9TvAsnJ. This seems to be breaking lots of stuff. Which includes...

2) Directory tree fails 50% of the time. Yesterday I couldn't list /, today I can't list the /usr/lib directory (and subsequently can't add my jdk). This is getting frustrating.

Is this a known bug, and if so is there a solution? Am I doing something wrong?

Nope, didn't fix the problem. As a matter of fact it made it worse.

Following is 6 logs that I was able to capture. The last one is the most interesting because that was when it was trying do alot of indexing and spit out so many errors that the file after 4 minuites is 3.4 MB.
1) http://pastebin.com/WTnHsdTt
2) http://pastebin.com/kNwZsyCc
3) http://pastebin.com/Vu50v3U2
4) http://pastebin.com/fj99a4TG
5) http://pastebin.com/yEuVc1AQ
6) http://pastebin.com/0aczxYjq (WARNING: 41,638 lines long)

This error is preventing me from doing any work and I'm about to go elsewhere, I was even thinking of buying the pro version. However if there are this many errors that actually prevent me from doing work, I'll go elsewhere. But I really want to use this IDE since it looks so powerful. I've reinstalled twice (complete removal, reinstall), flushed the cache, and restarted a few times. All lead to the same result. Any idea's?
