Alloy Look and Feel

Downloaded the Fabrique EAP yesterday - is that using the Allow
LookAndFeel from Incors?

If so - dayam that looks nice on my desktop. I remember seeing Eugene's
Beggregator app when he was doing that which used Alloy, any chance of
that LAF being shipped/used in the next IDEA EAP?

Well, for now you can download the Alloy L&F evaluation (or even buy it, if you have the dough) and use it in IDEA (or any other swing app for that matter). IDEA looks just great using Alloy!

I have tried it like the described in their document, but in my IDE Settings
(Appearance)
i don't see Alloy, maybe it works only with 4.0.3 and not with Pallada?

Well, works for both with me. Keep in mind that you should add the swing.properties file to the JRE that IDEA uses, not to the JRE your project uses. If you did the full installation, it should be under the 'jre' directory.

We could buy it, but if Jetbrains already have a licence for it...

I have done all the steps described in the document,
also added the swing.properties to the jre/lib directory, but
it does'nt show anything.

if u just copy&paste those from the html page to the swing.properties file, u should check if there are spaces around the "=" sign. u should delete all space chars. it worked for me.

Something is wrong with my installation, it don't work for me.
further i have the problem that after adding the swing.properties file
to the lib directory, i can't change the L&F to other than IDEA,
evertime i try i get an error.

I found out why it doesn't work,
i have to delete the trailing spaces of every entry in the swing properties
file
after this it works fine for me, but i found out that the menubar
is not correctly rendered, for me it looks flat white.

And since we're talking about cool look and feels, another one I really like is the FH Look&Feel, which you can find at

http://fhlaf.sourceforge.net

And here goes the obligatory screenshot

Wow, do you really code with that font? I can't decide if I like it or not. It's definitely interesting though. What is it? I think I would like to try it out.

It's called 'aquafont', and somehow I like it _ Sometimes it bores me, however, and I change fonts to something more conservative, such as Vera Sans Mono.

Can anyone send a URL for the download of the aquafont? From google it looks
like it's free, but I get all these Japanese download pages that I can't
read.

Thanks,

And while we're at it I should note that aquafont is not at "true" fixed width font: all characters happens to be the same width, but the font doesn't have a proper bold version. So bold characters end up being synthesized by the font engine, and are wider than the non-bold ones.

So, for a better experience, don't use bold hiliting in your color scheme _

Guess you need to read the thread by the web interface, Mark. It seems that attachments don't show up in the newsgroup. And oh, you'll also find a link to the font.

Sometimes the attachments show up in the usenet postings, other times
not. Strange.

Sometimes there's also a long delay between web and nntp posts. My reply above was posted on May 7th, but only showed up on the news on May 11th...
