Disable Local History for Specific Directories?

Is there any way to disable local history for specific directories, but not the project as a whole? I sometimes run code that creates a large number of machine-generated Java source files in my project directory, and whenever I do IDEA hangs until it can get them all processed into local history.

It's not feasible for me to generate the files outside of my project directory, so is there any way for me to tell IDEA to ignore the directories the source is generated into? I don't want to disable local history completely, because it's helpful for finer-grained control than SVN can provide, but this is getting irritating.

It's not possible now, but you can submit such a request.
And I think it will be possible (maybe) to disable local vcs per module so
you'll be able to store all generated sources into a special module

This existing request is still "to be discussed":
"LVCS : restore __by project__ setting + enable __by module__ setting "

Well, is there any progress? Since 2004?

I'm quite new to IDEA, started about 2 weeks ago. Now I have a problem: My Java program generates an XML file that can become more than 20000 (twentythousand) lines long. I can open it fine, but when I insert e.g. a space, IDEA "hangs" for a few minutes... First I thought it crashed, meanwhile I discovered that it builds a local history for that file - which is completely useless, something  IDEA cannot know.

There's a version control dialog that lets me exclude files in 3 ways (great feature), but there seems to be no way to exclude files or/and directories from local history in any way.

So, what can I do?
Please help!

Best regards
Dirk
