Magicdraw UML 7.1 - NEW! Integration with IntelliJ IDEA 4.0

Noticed this in the features matrix under Integrations:

http://www.magicdraw.com/main.php?ts=navig&NMSESSID=2e7ab60ba86d4968407fe044b0882156&cmd_show=1&menu=feature_list

So that's nice. :)

Scott

P.S. I don't work for or have any affiliation with this company, but the
product is rather good, although I haven't tried the advertised integration
with Idea 4.0 yet!

I'm constantly getting "Smarty error" :))

I tried it last night. It's not what I was expecting, but I thought it very nice all the same. When you start IDEA, it actually starts MagicDraw too. You cannot close MagicDraw, it stays open until you shutdown IDEA. I see that as somewhat of a drawback, since you may not always be interested in looking at the UML and you'll always have this other Java program running (not good if you're tight on resources).

But the integration with IDEA was tight. There is a MagicDraw menu in IDEA that has two choices, Update MagicDraw or Select in Magic Draw. Changes in the code do not affect the UML until you run the update. It seemed as if changing the UML updated the code immediately. I was never able to get the round-trip code/UML working well with previous versions of MagicDraw, but from what I saw last night, it was working very well.

I only played with class diagrams for 5 minutes or so, so there could be a lot of other cool featuers I haven't stumbled across yet. If you've used MagicDraw before, I would definitely check it out, there's a demo version that doesn't run out until March 1.

The reason is the session id in the mentioned URL.

Can someone comment on MagicDraw compared to ArgoUML
(http://argouml.tigris.org/)?

Thanks,
Amnon

No comparison, ArgoUML is free and lacking in a lot of areas, MagicDraw
is a full-fledged UML modeling tool that also models DBs, reverse
engineers code, round trip maintenance etc...

MD takes good care to keep their various platform versions up to snuff
including the Mac OS, and they don't seem to have UI problems with any
of the OSes I've tested. (Win, Mac and Linux)

Their prices are also very reasonable for the quality product you get.

Yup and it works quite well including roundtrip engineering.
