encoding of patch file created

Hi,
I am adding a utf8 encoded file to VCS, and trying to create a patch for it. I selected Version Control->Show Change View, then selected all changed files (including the utf8 one) in my change list, right click and selected Create patch. However the created patch file is not correctly encoded. The  utf8 chars are displayed as ?. I tried to set the entire project encoding to be utf8 and restated IDEA, it did not help. Is there any thing I am doing wrong or anything I can do to make this work?
