JRE 1.6.0_17 on windows vista

Hi all
i am using idea 92.91 (currently downloading 92.105) which use JRE 1.6.0_17
i am running vista on HP laptop
when i run this latest version, sometimes the video driver is reset resulting in black screen for about 10-15 seconds
i think this is an issue of this version of the jre
please investigate it, and if it is not necessery downgrade to JRE 1.6.0_16 which works well
thanks
Joe

Actually I am running Intellij on the latest version of the JDK as well on Windows 7 RC and it works just fine. I think its a problem with your machine.

Hello joe,

This should be much easier for you to investigate than for us, as we don't
have any HP laptops of an unknown model with an unknown version of a video
card driver here in our office. You can run IntelliJ IDEA with any JRE version
by defining the environment variable IDEA_JDK and pointing it to the JRE
installation home.

Hi Dmitry
thanks for your reply, and sorry for any interrupt
as an idea user scince v4 i know the IDEA_JDK trick
what i was trying is to raise a possible inconvinience may be faced by idea users
with the new community edition initiative, i expect more and more java developers and newbies to test idea and i wish they have a smooth experience
as many of those may run vista, i thought this issue may concern u
and i expected u to tell me the directions in order to confirm this or deny it
but it seems that i asked the wrong question or it wasn't the right place or the right time
for all of that ,please acceot my apologies
thanks

Wow someone did not have their coffee today! No one is trying to give you a hard time. I tried it out on a Vista machine FYI, with SP2 and it worked without a charm...and yeah it was an HP laptop with an AMD processor running 32 bit Vista and it worked. So yeah my suggestion still stands it could be something specific to your machine...or else you would have seen more posts maybe pertaining to the same issue?

Cheers

PS: Hope tomorrow is a better day for you

Hello joe,

Sorry - the tone of my previous reply wasn't appropriate. (These things happen
on the release day, you know...)

But it does seem to me that the problem you're experiencing is specific to
your configuration (or video card driver version), and does not happen on
all machines running Vista. Could you please test different JDK versions
on your machine and find out which is the first one that starts causing the
problem for you?
