CVS compression (-z9) in Idea 4.0 release candidates Follow
Does anyone know how to enable CVS compression (the -z9 flag) in Idea 4.0? It is important for me because I use two-way satellite as my internet connection; I have a very slow uplink.

Compression is not supported (because of java gzip implementation problems).

What problems do you mean? The problems with some CVSNT version (I
reported you some weeks ago) were only of temporary nature and fixed at
Ok, it's my fault. I've disabled gzipping because of my tests was failed (from time to time) with this option and I didn't know the nature of problem. I'm adding "use gzip compression" option to the global cvs settins (build 1140).
Hurrah! At last!
Thanks a lot. Looking forward for a new public build.
If it is not too hard to do, can you please arrange it so that the "z-level"
can be specified if you are using gzip compression? ("-z9" is not always
the optimum level.)

Yese, please make this an option. -z6 is generally the recommended
setting, I think.

Thanks for adding this feature.
I would also suggest moving it from Global Settings to Project Settings -> Version Control since for me this feature is project specific. Some projects reside within LAN, and some are worldwide.
Shouldn't this be server specific?
Probably the compression setting will be tha same for all the projects
residing in the same server.
But within the current interface there's no such dialog window to place server-specific settings to.
Suggest creating subgroups (perhaps tabs) in Global CVS Settings window for each server with the following settings: timeout, encoding, compression.
What do you think?
There is, sort of :)
If you do File->Check Out from Cvs, there's a list of known cvs servers.
It could be expanded and added to the settings->cvs panel.
I agree. Please make the z-level an option and should be at a project/server
