IntelliJ does not recognize external changes to files (defect 20864)

This defect is marked as fixed in build 977 however I (as well as several of my colleagues) are still seeing this behavior. How does one go about re-opening a defect?

Thanks

I am seeing this behavior as well. It is a major problem for me. I've noticed that the progress dialog that appears to indicate the progress of synching with external changes usually aborts part-way through. Thus some files are re-synched and some are not. I like the progress bar idea, but this is most definitely partly broken right now.

What OS are you using?

I have the same problem. W2K. I usually notice it when I check a file into
VSS manually. When I come back to IntelliJ, it thinks the file is still
writeable.

Did not work for me either (Win2k)

Well, it appears to be working for me now. Maybe I had to reboot my system
or something.

What is the state of this tracker request? At least in build 1108 on
Windows 2000 (did not check the newer releases yet) this still does not
work all the time. Sometimes changes are recognized, sometimes manually
synchronizing via the toolbar button helps and sometimes nothing but a
restart helps to recognize changes to files (even CVS state is not
recognized correctly sometimes).

Here is my use case. I have two IDEA projects open. One for the CVS main
trunk and one for a branch. After fixing some bugs in the branch I use
an external merge tool to get the changes to the main trunk. Now I
switch to my other IDEA project but some files do not get the "locally
edited" state, so I am not able to see the changes nor am I able to
check them into CVS using IDEA.

As mentioned above, sometimes it works, sometimes with manual
synchronization only and sometimes not at all until IDEA is restarted.

Since we have RC1 build 1120 available and this is a major bug in my
opinion, I would like to hear if others still experience this problem as
well and if there are any chances to get this fixed soon.

This problem is not only inconvenience but also a very dangerous
behaviour. Imaging you have a file you update from CVS using an external
client. The update includes a new method someone else committed. Inside
IDEA the change is not recognized and after changing something else in
the file and saving it, the new method is gone and you never knew it was
there!

I also had this problem in builds up to 1108. I've been using 1113 at work since it came out, and although files occasionally need a manual synch to detect read/write status changes or file modifications, I have not had any occasions where IDEA failed to reload a file on manual synch.

In other words, it appears to be fixed.

I will try the latest build next week. If manual sync works without
problems now it would be a great improvement but I would not call the
issue fixed as long as the automatic detection does not work like it did
before. I will post my experiences with the latest build next week.

In article <bus751$pht$1@is.intellij.net>, michael.descher@gmx.de

I had the same problem. My circumstances was using WinCVS to update, but
not having the update appear in CVS. It seemed to be fixed as of 1113,
but I'm still testing. I'm currently using 1120.
