Feature Request - Double click on specific file types automatically launches external tool

Not sure if this is the right forum for this but would like to request a feature.  Currently no good integration for PERL scripts.  Often project I'm working on require some sort of wrapper shell scripts that interact with the java programs.  I'd love to be able to double click a perl file (foo.pl) and have it launch gVim automatically with the file contents.  Is this possible already?.. I haven't found a way to double click.. I can right click on the file and launch the external tool but would like to be able to optionally configure certain filetypes to automatically launch external tool on double click.

Seems like this is something that should already be there?.. did I miss it?

Take a look at the "Native Neighbourhood" plugin (http://plugins.intellij.net/plugin/?id=38 or Settings | plugins | Available tab). It allows for double clicking a file and having it open in the OS's default application for the file type. So you will of course need to map the .pl file extension to the gVim application in your OS.

This feature is implemented in IDEA 9: http://blogs.jetbrains.com/idea/2009/07/native-file-associations-in-maia/
