a .properties file in root content results in project not loading

After the upgrade to 8.1.3  a project that I had with a ".properties" file ,  i.e.  a hidden file named properties that contains some application specific content, results in the project not loading at all.  There might be other modules in the project that work fine but the module with ".properties"  will not load.

The Project View shows a blue rolling ball and the modules directory doesn't show with a  "loading..."  showing in the Treeview.

Hello john,

Please try to use File | Invalidate Caches and restart IntelliJ IDEA.

I've reproduced it. Just create ".properties" file under a module content root. Invalidate caches does not help.
