Find Usages... in Linux version is busted

I am using IntelliJ 8.1 Build #9852 with JDK 1.6.0_13 and the Find Usages... function is broken.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  I have not been able to identify any pattern.  It is incredibly annoying.

Thanks
Bryan

If you had a customer who reported a bug like you just have, what would you
think? As a software developer yourself you surely understand how important
it is to give clear and concise information in a bug report. Saying something
"is broken. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't" isn't especially
helpful. Fair enough that you don't see a pattern, but at least explain exactly
what goes wrong and how often it happens to give the JetBrains developers
something to work with. Have you looked in the log file? Maybe there's a
stacktrace, etc. That way JetBrains might be more inclined to investigate
the problem, and you in turn might be more likely to get it fixed quickly.

Unfortunately there is little more information other than the OS details which, yes I should have included.  IntelliJ just merrily goes along its way claiming that there were no usages found.  Doing a search in path or project does apparently work.

I was not aware of a log file - where would I find this?  I looked in the idea install directory as well as my home directory but found nothing.

Here are the system details:

Linux version 2.6.9-78.0.8.plus.c4xenU (mockbuild@builder16.centos.org) (gcc version 3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-10)) #1 SMP Thu Nov 27 20:10:28 EST 2008

Don't you have a directory ~/.IntelliJIdea8x/system/log/ ?

Did you already tried the common first-try - to clear the
~/.IntelliJIdea8x/system/ directory and start IDEA again? Sometimes it helps
and sometimes it doesn't. ;)

Please try to use File | Invalidate Caches and restart IntelliJ IDEA.

Hi Bryan,

Are you referring to the regular "Find Usages" (Alt-F7), or the "Quick
Find Usages" (Ctrl-Alt-F7)?

Find Usages, Alt-F7

I tried clearing the caches which works for a while and then eventually gets back to the state where sometimes it works and sometimes not.  I looked through the system/log directory in my .IntelliJIdea8x directory and while there seems to be a fair number of subdirectories and logs with some exceptions - none of them correlate to the time that I try doing a Find Usage.

I am beginning to wonder if it might be related to the crappy home grown source code control system that is used here at Oracle.
