I'm trying to get IDEA set up as a replacement for Eclipse on my project, but I'm running into some serious speed issues. Due to various factors outside of my control, all the source files reside on a network server. As soon as I load up IDEA, I get about 350kb out/250kb in for several minutes. Building my project causes the same sort of traffic behavior, with occasional spikes of increased activity. My processor utilization is <10%, meaning that the network is the bottleneck. All of the traffic is SMB traffic, which is expected.
What I don't understand is why it's going so slow. When I build in Eclipse, I see about 500kb out/2MB in during the build process. In Eclipse, it takes about 5 minutes to build, but in IDEA it takes about 20. What's the difference? And is there anything I can do to improve IDEA's performance?
