Slow scrolling in gnome/ubuntu 8.10/linux

Hi!

I've happily moved from windows to ubuntu and most stuff I used to do i IDEA still works as before. However, when the editor needs to scroll somewhere (like when in debug mode and continuing to the next breakpoint) IDEA scrolls really slow. Like several seconds.

I've also seen that when I'm jumping to symbol (ctrl+alt+shift n) the editor is scrolled to the wrong place but the coursor is correctly positioned so moving up or down with arrows keys will quickly correct this error.

Any one else seen this? Have a fix perhaps?

Thanks.

it is a Ubuntu 8.10 bug:

You can try using XAA as your accel method in your xorg.conf

Yes, I'm now rocking gtk+ and XAA (very ugly and still not as fast as on same maching running windows).

And I've found that there already is an open issue (resolved) with the "jump to symbol".

I still wish I could use unaltered configfiles for xorg and default theme in IDEA.

That is the exact reason I haven't upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 yet. I actually did upgrade to 8.10 after it came out and then had to downgrade because of the X server/Java issue (i.e. I wiped it and installed 8.04) I really wish my company would just buy me a Mac. Since they won't I use the next best thing and sometimes you do indeed get what you pay for.

And I wish I known about this before. I could as happily used 8.04 but I don't have time to downgrade. I just hope they fix it
