Default Project Directory

This question may have a really simple answer:

Where can I change the default project directory?

IntelliJ keeps trying to create new projects in my home directory - and thats not where my projects are - nor where I want them to be...

Currently nowhere. We are considering adding such an option.

-1 not yet another option to clutter the UI. I'd even say that it would be wiser to remove any default and force the user to choose where to create the project.

What UI do you think will be cluttered? Its an IDE setting...

Each time??

On windows, where I develop my projects is miles away from where my home directory is - and it annoys me no end that every time I create a project, I have to navigate my way round my file system...

A reasonable alternative would be for IDEA to remember where you last created a project, and store the parent of that as the start point for new project creation. No new UI fields, but it would be the desired behaviour about 99% of the time. If anyone else likes this idea, I'll submit a tracker.

+10
sounds like a great idea to me.

Now that's something reasonable.

So, it would remember the last directory used to create a project, so the next time I create a project it uses the same dir.

And one further detail for you to add in your request: IDEA should default to the project/module root in all operations related to the project/module, like adding classes. "Oh, we can have multiple content roots", you would say. Then default to the first, or to the least common path.

Didn't this used to be the case in IDEA? Or was that something in the
default project properties? Anyway, I like your suggestion.

I've submitted a tracker request for my suggestion, #22578.
