How to exclude specific files from the Project

There are some "chatty" log files that consume too much time to sync with the IDE. They live in a path deep inside my app, so I can't just remove a whole directory tree. How can I disable/remove specific files/directories from the project so the IJ will not keep syncing to them?

Alternately, is it possible to turn off file-system syncing for just specific files -- and leave it enabled for all other files in the project?

thanks

You can exclude a directory (and its contents), but not individual files. However, this will exclude the directory from the project completely (including being on the classpath or seen as resources) and not just from being synced.

To exclude a directory:
1) Open the Settings dialog (ctrlaltS or File | Settings from the menu)
2) Open the "Project Setting" dialog
3) In the "Project Settings" dialog window, on the left, under "Project Setting", select "Modules'
4) Select the module that contains the directory in question And make sure the "Sources" tab is selcted
5) In the right pane, expand the directory tree to the desired directory. select it and click "Excluded" so that it turns red. Save the changes.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. I actually knew already how to exclude files/dir's from the project altogether. I don't want to do that. I just want to turn off the automatic reload of specific files or dirs. But it sounds like that's not supported. At least it's helpful to know one way or the other.
