I like some of them, but several icons looks worse than old IDEA icons.
The new ErrorReporting icon is not very readable/discernable. I like the general concept (ER superimposed over a red cross), but there is not enough contrast with the icon to be able to read ER easily--esp. with the default color scheme/theme.
I agree. It took me a while to figure out what the Commander icon was, and I think I remember liking the old TODO icon better (thouhg I don't remember what it was).
One thing that ought to be considered a bit more on the icons is how understandable when they are "on their side". I have the "commander" icon in the toolbar on the right side of my screen. After looking at the thing for a while, I finally had to turn my head to the side to figure out what it was.
It might be worth noting that this is the only icon that I needed to do this for. Most of the rest of them are fine no matter what orientation you are in.
I don't like the new debug icon. The bug on top of an arrow is harder to see. I would like it as just a bug.
The reload icon arrows almost look parallel to me rather than a circle. The reload icon in IE gives a better impressions that the arrows are forming a circle IMO. .
The Make project icon is funky, but I don't have a better idea, though.
I don't like the pastel color palette. I prefer bolder colors. Also, I prefer crisper icons because they look better on higher resolution screens (which cause the icons to look smaller).
For instance, The Save icon (Disk) should be black which is standard on many other applications I use. I don't really like the light purple.
I wonder if they should just rotate the icons (but clearly not the text) for the left and right sides.

I dont like the icon for custom file type(seems like a half-length man??). It likes a toy. I my opinion, the "Custom" means "customize" not "customer", so it's better to NOT use a head portrait.
+1 Also Changed place of "Run" button (moved right from combobox) is too hard of using. I like placement that be previos. Error reporting icon is flat and not look like all other icons in IDE Settings. Also "Diff" icon. Save icon worse that before in Ariadna :)
Do you mean rotate to always show them in their natural orientation? Then +1 from me.

Another +1. Especially after wondering about the "drowning fish" when you have the CVS window on the left (which also somewhat resembles a falling bomb - well, it would fit the new splash screen).

Yes, I agree. This makes me think that contrast setting of my monitor went away. They also seem kind of out of focus, it is hard to concentrate on them. Make them bolder, crisper, brighter, with sharp edges. Better yet, make two or three sets of icons for different tastes. It seems that tastes, though they differ, are grouped into several distinctive groups.
Palette: soft pastel / sharp bright LAF: should change with LAF change or system theme change / should stay the same Color: coloured / black-and-while (I know people who prefer bw icons, I like them too, like ones in Outlook Express 5.x-6.x. Again, bw icons fits much better into different LAFs and when overall system or app colors are changed. Size: very small / small / bigger Arrangement: fixed position, standard toolbar / variable position, custom toolbar Localization: international symbols / localized symbols. The classic example here is the mailbox icon, which in US is a tubular thing on a pole with red lever, and in many european countries it is a blue or yellow box with yellow or white text on in like POST. I do not see the examples of totally inappropriate icons for a particular locale, but this is an issue that should be held in mind. We saw it in the ad examples, that not all people got the meaning of the ad with men, pulling the barge :) Text: text on or near an icon / no text Position: fixed under the main menu / floating, can be docked on the same level with system menu. Attached an example of menu/toolbar combination I prefer for IE. I understand that IDEA has much more menu items and icons, but it is nice to be able to select only needed subset to put onto toolbar. Menu item resizing: shrink each menu item / cut the toolbar and attach a submenu with items that were hidden because of resize. Notice how IE maps menu items into submenu. Granted, I did not play a lot with Aurora, but Ariadna cannot handle window size change gracefully, it cuts menu items (at least this is better that just to cut the whole menu bar, I am not sure do I like this behaviour or not, but I would prefer it to follow standards for a particular platform), and simply cuts toolbar, leaving all buttons out of the reach.
Ah, the starting sounds of that game keep echoing in my mind now. The lound siren, then the ruffling drums... and there you go, valiant, with just a knife and your... Green Beret!
Generally I like them. There's a few dodgy ones - e.g. I think the
Commander and TODO tool window icons are too complex for their size....

I don't like the TODO icon on the IDEA settings page. Looks like a bloke with big glasses.
And when I set up a new file type, the same icon is used to on the file as well ... :(
The icon for JSPs is much better now (the color)...

I agree. In general I like the new ones, but the GC- and
Commander-buttons looks worse than before.

As already requested, I would like the Run icon to use the "arrow" from
the Debug icon, too, to show its similarity.

ER icon already removed. Error-Reporting settings moved to the ER dialog.

I still don't understand what the commander icon is.
Looks like the head of a sergeant major or something.. some soldier with
a beret and mustache?
