Combined Go To File and Go To Class

Hi.

I was wandering if it would make sense to anyone else to have a combined Go
To Class and Go To File option, so that the files and classes will be
displayed together with a couple of check boxes (e.g. selectable show only
Java classes, group by type, etc.)

I find myself too many times pressing Ctrl+N when I want to go to a file,
then it takes me a second to realize why I am not seeing any found files,
then pressing escape, CtrlShiftN, and finally going where I want to.

Comments, anyone?

Why not have a combined version (Go To whatever)?

Most of the time I want to go to a class, not to an arbitrary file. In
that case I don't want 20,000 files to get into the list, because it's
easier to find the class if the list is limited to 500-700 classes.

Of course the list isn't this long once I start typing but the principle
remains. The more items in the list, the more you have to type until
you find the right class.

And I personally navigate much more using ctrl-N than using the tabs or
the project view.

Same for me. I would hate seing those 2 merged, and having to
tick/untick an added checkbox in the dialog.

There are better much candidates for merging :

OK, I understand, you are probably right.

I'd like a combined version with checkboxes to specify what was being
included (classes, files and/or ?). I'd want it to come up with the
appropriate boxes checked depending on how I'd invoked it: if I pressed
Ctrl-N I'd want just the classes box checked, if I pressed Ctrl-Shift-N it
should be the files box. I think that would keep all the benefits of the
current separate dialogs, but also allow for the combined behaviour that a
number of people (myself included) seem to want.

Bad Idea. (for all the reasons previously mentioned).

A much better idea is to merge goto class with the file Structure popup (ctrl-f12).

Often, when I navigate I am going to a method in a class, so I do a ctrl-n type the class, and then do a ctrl-f12 and type the method.

Why not do a ctrl-N, type the method, hit ".", and then the method, and have it just work.

I could have sworn I either filed or had seen a problem in the tracker requesting this. But I can't find it. If someone can't point me at one within a couple of hours, I write one up with this request.

Do you still need this combination when you have Go To Symbol?

Ctrl-Alt-Shift-N, type method name...

Uhh. It doesn't quite do what I want. Remember, that often I need the list of methods (or classes) in order to figure out what I am trying to get too (old age starts earlier these days).

so I need to progressively disclose the information.

Taken up a level, I should be able to specify things by package as well (arbitrarily, so I don't need to be fully qualified).

e.g. swing.table.TableCell*.get

Is a feature request for the combined goto class / view structure functionality.
