empty gray dialogs?

Sometimes dialogs turn up gray and empty in IntelliJ 7, closing and reopening the dialog
solves it. Irritating. Any ideas?

Found the solution, add the following to the device section in xorg.conf:

Add Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true"

Maybe too quick there, still got the problem...

I too have this problem and the suggestion above does not help me either. I can reproduce this using search and replace. If I open a file with a lot of something to replace and I quickly click the "Replace" button, after a few clicks, the search and replace dialog will come back empty.

I am running Ubuntu 7.10 with the Visual Effects setting on "Normal".

This is a problem with compiz (used for those desktop effects) and Swing, not specific to IDEA. Specifically, it has to do with the JRE's way of re-parenting windows. See these bug reports for JDK (the latter being prematurely closed).

As a devotee of both compiz and IDEA, I've explored exotic options to fix this problem, none satisfactory. You may consider using Xnest and running IDEA within that. The problem there is that you won't be able to copy & paste to and from your editor.

You may also try setting the environment var: AWT_TOOLKIT to MToolkit. This introduced too many quirks to my satisfaction though.

Naturally you may consider turning off compiz (desktop effects) altogether. For the time being I myself am learning to live with the occasional gray-dialogs.

Thanks, I also used "AWT_TOOLKIT to MToolkit" before but experienced a lot of problems too. No current solution found..

Turning compiz off or living w/o cut & paste doesn't appeal to me..
