IntelliJ + Tomcat config problems

Hello,

After much work, a lot of trial and error I've finally got this almost working. I've been migrating an application created in Eclipse over to IntelliJ and I've gotten to the point where I can build everything fine but I still have to run Tomcat standalone to get it to run. I'd really like to be able to debug here. When I create a local Tomcat configuration and add my application to the deployments, it seems to just ignore my application. When I start the server it starts in 300 ms and there doesn't seem to be any apps. When I open the browser to any URL I get a blank page, not even an error page, completely blank no matter what URL is entered. So I say fine, I'll try to set up remote. I entered the settings for a remote server but basically it says cannot connect to debugging port whenever I try this. Thanks for any help on this.

If you are running tomcat as a separate app, you need to tell it's VM to open a port for debugging. Then IJ would be able to connect to it. (You'll find the settings in IJ on the tabs where you configure where to deploy etc)

Google around as to how to enable a VM for remote debugging. Should be all over the place.

I've been able to do this with multiple version of IJ, as well as multiple versions of Tomcat. So it should be working fine.
