it seems that you cannot use jre from 819 for 823 :( Follow
823 cannot find java.lang.SimpleIterator if I just copy zip to my 819
installation, so I suppose I have to download bundle with jre.
is it only me?

It seems to be fine if you use separate idea697-jre.zip and idea828.zip.

You have to use the new idea.bat file, not the old one you had tweaked.
I got the same error, and it was because I had not overwritten the old bat
file.
Just take the new bat (or sh file if you're on linux) and everything will
work fine.

I'm having the same problem and the same exception.
And I had overwritte the old idea.bat.
Please help!

Here's what I usually do:
1) Unzip idea828.zip in a new directory (c:/idea).
2) Unzip idea697-jre.zip in the same directory.
3) Edit idea.bat (-Didea.system.path=%IDEA_HOME%/system -Didea.config.path=%IDEA_HOME%/config).
4) Copy config dir from the previous installation.
5) Copy system/idea.license from the previous installation.
When I run the idea.bat is ok.
But why it doesn't work anymore when I try to use idea exe?

Because bootclasspath changed ( http://www.intellij.net/tracker/idea/viewSCR?publicId=13322 ). In this case download the installer.
OK I found it. I've modified the idea.lax and added the -Xbootclasspath
parameter.
Thanks
