Did Darcula theme get darker in WebStorm 11? Configurable?

I have the impression Darcula got a lot darker in WebStorm 11.

I have both, WebStorm 10 and 11 open next to eachother now and all the user interface objects backgrounds got a bit darker.

I believe there is no configuration option to change background colors of the GUI elements except for the editor's background color. Is that right?

If my assumption is right, it would have been nice to have a "Darcular (light)" and "Darcular (dark)" theme instead. Dar UIs are great but if it gets too dark then there is the chance of too many reflections if you are forced to work with a glossy screen.

Hi there,

What is your OS? If Mac OS then it's because of Java (Apple's 1.6 JDK was forcibly making colors a bit warmer and therefore lighter) -- the latest IDE versions come with bundled Oracle's 1.8 JDK where such color manipulation is not performed.

You can check what JDK you are using either from "About..." screen or from idea.log files

That's correct. GUI Theme is Java Swing's Look & Feel themes which (usually) do not have user configuration exposed. At least IDE does not offer _any_ configuration in this regard.

(NOTE: there is a plugin that would allow you to change list background color (e.g. for Project View) but that's about it).

Have a look at this project (have both GUI Theme & Editor Color Schema) -- may work OK for you (still work in progress though) -- https://github.com/ChrisRM/material-theme-jetbrains

Yes, Mac OS. It says JRE 1.8 indeed.

Weird that they would do that to colors in 1.6 JDK, but I liked it. I assume there is no way to change this on the JDK level again?

Thank you also for pointing me to this nice project on GitHub. Not an option yet since the lighter theme is still WIP ist says but I will definitelly come back.

People were actually complaining that color (RGB/HEX) inside IDEA is not the same as in Photoshop (for example) on the same machine. So 1.8 actually uses "real" colors.

The ideal solution would be if devs provide some user customisation for Darcula GUI Theme (not necessary real-time changes as it simply may not work like that, but at least it could read color values from config values on start) but so far it does not look like they are working on this (based on the corresponding tickets; which is quite understandable -- very small percent of people would actually change such colors).
