How to keep empty editor panes opened? (Don't destroy empty editor panes)

Hi,

If i have two files opened and use the "Move right" - command on one of the files, the window is divided into two panes. Is there a way, to keep empty editor panes/groups open (to keep the two culumn layout, even if one of the files is closed)?

In Atom, for example, there is a setting called "Destroy empty panes (yes/no)". In Sublime Text you can choose: Layout - 2 Columns, to always have 2 editor columns.

Thanks!
Alex

There is no such option.

I agree with this! I have a setup where I have a triple pane setup and would like to keep each open when there are no files open. This is something I really like in Atom. The workaround I have come up with is creating 3 dummy files (1.py, 2.py, 3.py) and pinning them to each pane so they won't be closed. It's an ugly hack but seems to work for the moment...
