Setting GridBagConstraint values in GUI designer

I want to. Can I do it? I've looked in help and online for help and also in chapter 10 of the Manning book. No luck. Thanks!

Just in case, this is about the setting the properties of the Class GridBagConstraints in the course of creating a GridBagLayout using the GUI designer tool in Milestone 7 of IntelliJ

When you have a component selected, the properties pane displays a number
of GridBagLayout specific properties in the top part, with grey background.
The avialable properties are Insets, Weight X/Y and Ipad X/Y. All the other
properties are settable visually by moving and resizing the component in
the grid.

Dmitry,

Hmm. I just don't get it. It just doesn't seem to represent anything like the GridBag and GridBagConstraints I know.

I don't see the implicit grid. I expected that I would see the grid and then be able to move the panels around to different (gridX and gridY) locations, resize them to take up 2 or 3 grid "cell" heights or widths (gridWidth and gridHeight)... what I sort of get is.. well I am not really sure WHAT I get... LOL.... I understand GridBag and GBC objects, but I can't relate that to what the GUI designer does .. can't move or resize anything.. it just snaps back to where ever it is it wants to be.... can't interact with those green and purple things at the sides ... they won't be dragged, right-clicked or interacted with in any way.... just.... don't get it... ! I dragged a bunch of JPanels into the the thing, then went to look at the code and all it had done is written the declaration for a single JPanel End Class definition!

I am just no good at these things !!

I do my GUIs by hand anyways... just thought I would try this to see if I can increase my productivity... not a fan of these GUI builders .. never met one I liked... nothing's changed LOL..

I'll tell you what... you guys document the plug-in architecture and then I will have the time to write a plug-in to layout a GridBag layout and we'll both be better off for it! Woo hoo!

not sure about the GridBag handling of IDEA, since I tried the JGoodies FormsLayout, i never looked back =)

Did you give it a try ?

Well I can do everything with GridBagLayout that I want so it's solving a problem I don't have.. I guess that's the short answer. I think the trick to being a good developer over the long run is knowing what to ignore. like the way I am assiduously ignoring jaxass ...er... I mean ajax... ...OK that's not a flame.. don't flame me.. :)
