PHPStorm editor freezing
I am running PHPStorm 9.0 and it has the same problem that the previous version had: the editor gets slower and slower and the IDE is churning the heck out of my CPU. Eventually, I have to exit PHPStorm and restart it, but it tears up my CPU.
I am wondering whether this has anything to do with the Java runtime which is on 1.8.20.
I have seen a number of articles on the web that suggest I am not the only one with this problem? How do I go about fixing it?

I guess that would be the best way as devs will have a chance to see what exactly is making it slow.
I have altered the .vmoptions file as suggested, but the editor still freezes up. It only takes a few minutes for it to start to get sluggish. I have also submitted a report to jetBrains. Don't know what else I can do short of going back to Visual Studio.
For freezing -- this would be more correct link (as the one I gave originally was more for "IDE is slow" situations)
