Webstorm 10 CPU Usage
Hi,
I've recently upgraded to WS 10 on my Windows 7 64 bit notebook. Beginning right from the opening of the IDE, CPU usage does not fall below 13% and fan goes mad, even when I do not open a project.

I recently upgraded to Webstorm 10.0.1 for JavaScript on an OSX machine with an i7 processor and lots of memory.
Webstorm locks up all the virtual cores and sends the fans spinning.
I am getting very frustrated with this as it impacts my work just with simple edits.
I do not have time to debug and send in reports.
I am about to dump 10.0.1 and go back to 9.x.
Do you have a solution yet?
What JVM do you use?
java version "1.7.0_45"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_45-b18)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.45-b08, mixed mode)
I do not have a choice of using 1.6 so rolling back is not an option.
I also cannot move to 1.8 at this time.
this bug is tracked as https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/WEB-15878, fix is in progress
Hi,
I have same issue here.
Sometimes, even Webstorm is at the backgroud, it starts using one CPU core at 100%.
Sometimes it ends after a while but sometimes it takes long time to come back to the normal.
1-2 times I had to restart Webstorm.
My WS 10 did not lock up the system but made editing almost impossible with every edit action taking 1-10 seconds to complete.
Please let us know if anyone comes up with a solution, I had to roll back to WS 9 cause it made working with it almost unbearable.
Any update?
Life is getting worse and worse.
Hi,
I think I fixed it for myself but the problem is still valid.
Our Javascript project was huge and all files were under one webstorm project.Because of concatenations , minifications etc. and some other structural stuffs ,there were more than one copy of same files or javascript structures under the project. I think this might cause the problem. Maybe some recursive references because of same code blocks in different files etc. Jetbrains can check it.
I just split project into 3 small projects and I use 3 webstorms instances at the same time. None of them has CPU issue anymore.
Yeah we have multiple copies of the same files within a project folder structure too, because we have multiple site projects within the overall system project. Doing just one set of those would not work for us as we have a core set and then site specific modification sets and need to regularly reference both in the same editing project.
This is not a problem in WS 9, so it something that has started in WS 10.
I posted a question on April 6, 2015 regarding a solution for this issue.
I haven't heard anything new regarding a solution but I have heard many more grumblings.
My solution was to revert to version 9.
Ugh!!
Same issue here: 10.0.3 does not improve the situation. Even changing Highlighting Level from Inspections to Syntax does not completely remove the hiccups - though it is somewhat better.
What is the recommendation?
I'm having the same issue on OS X 10.10.3 and it's very frustrating. I'm relatively happy with the product besides this enormous CPU draw.
I've just started evaluating Webstorm and using version 10.0.3 (Java 7u67). I have a small test project and even when I'm not using the application, CPU usage stays at minimum 25% for Webstorm and fans continues to run in overdrive. It saps the battery in no time. I really cannot pay for this product until this issue is fixed. I'm new to NodeJS development and probably need to explore other IDEs.
