Path variables in module output directories

This is the first time I've had a need for path variables, and I'm getting quite frustrated. Whenever I try to use a path variable $FOO$ for a module output directory, IDEA replaces it with a directory /Applications/IDEA.app/bin/$FOO$ . Any guesses what I'm doing wrong, or are path variables not supported for module output directories?

Hello Dave,

As far as I remember, one's not supposed to specify the path variable anywhere
but in the path variable list dialog. If a certain directory path has a variable
defined for it IDEA replaces the dir path with the path variable when saving
the project/module file to disk, transparently (and replaces it back when
loading said file). So you would not see the path variable anywhere in the
UI (short of the place where they are defined). You could check if a dir
path has been replaced with a path variable by looking at the project/module
file saved on the disk.

Just in case you were not aware of this peculiarity and you were trying to
explicitly specify the path variable in the path (not sure if this is the
cause of your problem, though)...

HTH,
Andrei

Thanks. I wasn't aware of that, and the documentation is kind of sketchy. The functionality is very cool, but also very non-obvious.
