tomcat 5.0 support

I am using tomcat 5.0 for JSP 2.0 support.

i cannot debug my simple web application consisting
of jsp and servlet in IDEA.

Also why do I have to edit server.xml file in tomcat
to add context tag for my web application when this
info is already given within IDEA project setup?

I spent two hours on this but no success.
I added paths to all the jar files needed for
tomcat 5.0.

Please help so that I can finish project soon.

As I understand it, IDEAs Tomcat integration only supports 4.0.x versions at
present. You can still debug your servlet code, though not the JSPs, by
setting up a remote debugging target for your Tomcat instance.

Hope that helps,
Vil.

Tomcat 5.0 claims to support JSR 045 for JSP debugging.
You can modify Tomcat plugin sources to enable JSP debugging for this Tomcat version. Of course, later we'll provide generic
solution for debugging JSR 45-compatible app servers.

how do i modify the plug-in sources for tomcat?

i have a web application without WAR file. Do
I have to modify server.xml to add context path
for my web application? It shoudl not be necessary.

In Tomcat 4.0 I had to modify server.xml to add context
for my web application. Otherwise IDEA will complain that
context path not found even though within IDEA this
informaratio is already there.

also my web application is in (CATALINA_HOME)/webapps
directory in accordance with the rules of a web application directory structure.

also I get the followign error message:

"Failed to establish connection to the target VM at 'localhost:5050' using socket transport"

when I try start debug of my web application
with a break point set up in the JSP page within
IDEA.

I need to be able to debug JSP pages at the JSP source
code level.

For those of us investigating writing plugins for other appservers, would it be possible to add JSR-45 support currently, or should we wait for IDEA to support it? Is it even possible to do without any help from IDEA?

Yes, it should be possible as soon as you implement the JSPDebugSupport interface so that servlet and JSP positions are calculated
with JPDA calls added to implement JSR 045.
