6.0.2: CVS: Checkout a non .ipr project. Now what?

I checked out an entire project from CVS without a .ipr file.

From the IDEA Help "If no such file exists, you will need to cancel the open operation and create a new project with the checked-out code."

How do I create a project with the checked-out code?

I was never asked to use "current sources" or anything related when I create a new project.

Thanks,

Your response was completely useless.

I am asking how do I get source code checked out from CVS into a valid IntelliJ project. Please read my initial question.

Good luck getting someone else to help!

Seriously. How about "thanks anyway, but that's not what I was looking for?"

On the chance that someone else has the same question, though, here's an alternate answer. If you're trying to get the code into an existing IDEA project, try "File -> New Module". You'll be presented with a dialog which resembles the new project wizard.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

I guess I'm a little confused on the point that I should point my src and WebRoot path to the checked out CVS src and WebRoot path?

Wouldn't that overwrite anything in those directories?

I've been trying to get this to work and I cannot see the checked out source in either of those directories.

After I get that figured out, will I still be able to have full CVS commands on the source in the new .ipr?

Thanks,

Guess you have used Eclipse before. "Importing" anything in your project is not necessary.
It's ok to just point your src and resource folder directly to the CVS folders. (Idea won't overwrite anything there, why should it?)
Usually I put my idea project files directly in the CVS folder, too (but check in only *.ipr and *.iml, because *.iws contains user specific temporary data like window positions).

If CVS operations are not enabled have a look at the project settings (File Menu -> Settings -> Project Settings -> Version Control) and check that CVS is selected there.

But your are not very clear as to what exactly the problem is, e.g. what does it mean that you "cannot see the checked out source in either of those directories".
In Windows Explorer, in Idea project settings, in project tree, in ... ?

That is what I missed!

Thank you.

Gee, these seem like different questions than you asked in your original post. The Help Menu and the first reply both answered your original question accurately.

Perhaps this link is something you could use to help you in the future:

I posted the first response and I really wasn't trying to be a smart-aleck, I really thought that is what he was needing to know (which I could understand if you are used to a getting the ipr file from source control), it is exactly what his question asked. I was sort of taken aback by his telling me my help was totally useless.

Anyway, on my team we don't commit the ipr file because it seems to cause more hassle than it is worth. The ipr seems to be written to all the time and chaos ensues when we put it under source control, so we just leave it out.
