804 Stalling...

Has anyone here noticed 804 (and 802) occasionally hanging/stalling for up
to like 30 seconds every now and then? Seems to usually happen for me
after I copy something to the clipboard...

Starting to get rather fustrating...

Doesn't it happen after external changes (e.g. getting multiple files from
version control)?

So far I've only noticed it on copying things to the clipboard.

Try to get a thread dump in the IDEA console window (Ctrl-Break on Windows)
next time when it will happen.

Ok, I'm prolly thick here - but do you mean console ( start from an xterm
) or another "console"?

Make sure IDEA process has an associated terminal (start bin/idea
in xterm or konsole or whatever).
Make sure your idea.lax contains the following options:
lax.stderr.redirect=console
lax.stdout.redirect=console
lax.stdin.redirect=console

And here you are.
You get a thread dump by sending a SIGQUIT to IDEA java machine,
which usually amounts to pressing Ctrl-\ in associated terminal.

If this does not work, 'stty -a' in that terminal will help you
to find a correct key. As a last resort, find the PID of IDEA java
machine using 'pstree -p' (IDEA JVM is a 'java' process that "grows"
directly from 'idea') and 'kill -SIGQUIT' it.

Friendly,
Dmitry

it happens during editing. If you cut/copy/paste and the syntactical
structure gets messed up,
IDEA hangs for some time and print "Out Ot Memory" to stdout.
So it's probably caused by the syntactical analysis or something ...

don't know if that helps:

Did you also address the problem with IDEA stalling? For me, it is still
pausing after I copy text to the clipboard (today: #807).

Best regards,

Dirk Dittert

I'm also still noticing it, but not as often in 807.

I also have the feeling that it does not occur when you use drag and
drop to copy the text.

Hmmm, I usually shift-up/shift-down select the text to cut'n'paste when I
notice it...
