Now that Java is open source ....

Does this make life easier or harder for JetBrains?

Or is it just business as usual?

Business as usual. I don't really see how this impacts us. The access to
source code and the possibility to contribute patches have been available
for quite a while already.

Well, there's an important difference in that you can now distribute a
modified JDK with Idea (if needs be to work around any JDK bugs) - and
my understanding is that you won't need to open-source Idea if you do
this, due to the "classpath exception". So we should see a more stable
product, right?

On the other hand it looks like J2ME devs are pretty stuffed since J2ME
is pure GPL which means that all J2ME apps have to be GPL as well ... or
am I misunderstanding something?

We can do so, but as far as I understand this will be quite a lot of hassle
for us to do so (for instance, we won't be able to call our runtime environment
"Java"). We don't have any plans to jump into JDK bugfixing really soon now.
:)

As far as I understand, people can continue using all the J2ME stuff under
any of the licenses it was previously available under. GPL is just one of
the licensing options.
