i build a new project with the new name and delete the old!!!

That's what I did, but I had to check that all the setting are the same
(paths, VSS configuration, etc.). This is an unlike-IDEA process that is
also error prone.

you probably could have created the new project and then copied your old project files over top of the new one. Then deleted the old one.

Which ones? Don't these files contain the project's name?

I was thinking you could create a new project junk

then copy old.jpr to junk.jpr and copy old.iws junk.iws. I have never tried this but that could transfer all your settings.

I have successfully renamed my .ipr and .iws files many times. Does that do what you want?

Maybe, I'm not sure (maybe there's some reference in the project's files to
its name) - can anyone from JetBrains say?
In any case, the right way to do such a thing is from within the IDE, not by
renaming files, hence my enhancement request.

I think the only thing you have to do is rename the .ipr and .iws files to
the name you want (keeping the extensions naturally). I just tried it on a
project of mine and it worked fine. To be sure I checked the files and the
name of the project was not stored in them.
