Incremental background compilation

Hi,

What are the opinions on a background compilation system like the one
in VisualAge?

The current parser does not catch all errors, having feedback from the
compiler in the current IDEA UI (ie the left vertical bar with the
stripes) would increase development cycles. (this aside from the
obvious no-compile-time advantage).

Regards,

True, but they are are catching the vast majority of compilation errors
and have been improving it all the time. When you find a compilation
error they haven't captured, submit a "Bad code is Green" SCR... Just be
sure to run a search to check that Timur Zambalayev hasn't already
submitted it because Timur is the master of "Bad code is Green" SCRs. :)

Here are a few that I submitted recently that they have fixed for
release 700--

Background compilation alone isn't enough... we want IDEA to identify
the problem code intelligently as it does presently, and I expect that
it takes case-by-case consideration by IntelliJ developers with each
compilation error.
