IDEA slow in starting up

I think IDEA has become very slow in starting up. On my computer
(PIII 1GHz, 512MB) it has now been starting up for five minutes. And
it is still "Saving caches for ...". After saving caches the rest of
the startup takes about 20-30 sec.

I have a medium project with about 500 classes.

I just look en the idea.log and take a look. 9 minutes and IDEA is
ready.

Can I do any kind of cleanup to speed up the process?

Don't you occasionally have lot of files (non-java) under your project
root(s)?

I am also having this problem. I have a very large project and it takes an

excruciating amount of time (at least 30-45 min) to start up. It spends
most of this time "Saving caches...". I did not have this problem with
2.6.
My project does contain some resource files, icons, and xml files, but not
a
large quantity of non-java files.

I also had a similar problem when I tried to create a new project. Even a
small project seemed to never finish "Saving caches...". I finally killed
it after a few hours. I tried several times and was not successful. The
project that I did manage to open and use was an old 2.6 project that it
converted into a new 3.0 project.

Valentin, Is there anything I can send you to help you diagnose the
problem?

Is there anything I can do to work around this problem?

Using Build 668 on Win 2000 Gigahertz processor 256 RAM.

I think I have found the problem. In order to have backup of all my
code I had placed my code on a network drive. It made everything
very slow. THe code is now back on C.\ and I'm a happy man again.
Like going from a 75MHz to 1000MHz :)

I created a report for this:

Changing my project to a local drive also helped.

Please go to the IDEA console window (if you don't have one because you are
using idea.exe launcher, start it with Control key pressed to get the
console) and press Ctrl-Break when it hangs. This will print the thread
dump. Please copy it and send to me.
