So are u all ready to purchase IDEA 3.0 final

Hello all.......
Well actually I don't know how long this group will last cause IntelliJ is
just going to release IDEA 3.0 after 1 1/2 weeks. So after 1 1/2 weeks there
won't be any EAP for IDEA 3.0.

Once it is released, I guess IntelliJ is planning to fix all the huge amount
of remaining bugs and releasing a patch after 6 or 7 months.
For me build 651 is far from stable (well I am not expecting it to be 100%
perfect cause it is in development stage) be me and and my fellows are
facing issues with cpu rising upto 100% in various circumstances making our
computer freeze, and when I compare it to the early builds it is growing
slower and slower. I am really looking forward to build 652 to see if there
are any improvements as far as performance is concerned. I guess build 652
will be the last build that IntelliJ will release. And right after build
652, I think they will be set to release IDEA 3.0. My company is also
looking forward to purchase licences for some latest IDEs in the market. We
have narrowed it down to Oracle, IBM and IntelliJ on our list, but it is
going to be a difficult decision for my company to make a deal with Intellij
at this moment cause of the speed issues.
I am just wondering wether Intellij is really going to release its product
within 1 1/2 weeks or would they delay their deadline and concentrate on
making the product bugless and releasing a few more builds before the final
release.

Well I have to say that whilst IntelliJ isn't perfect it is so far ahead of
the competition that we'll be using it anyway and paying for it.

In all fairness their price is also so good that I don't feel in the least
bit cheated, and I'll probably be signing up for the next eap as soon as it
is open.

Don't you think there will be an EAP for the next version of IDEA?

Once it is released, I guess IntelliJ is planning to fix all the huge

amount

of remaining bugs and releasing a patch after 6 or 7 months.

What leads you to guess that they will take 6 or 7 months to make another
release? Do you think it will take them that long to fix the bugs, or are
you just used to other companies who don't release new versions very often?

For me build 651 is far from stable (well I am not expecting it to be 100%
perfect cause it is in development stage) be me and and my fellows are
facing issues with cpu rising upto 100% in various circumstances making

Do you have a reason to think the developers won't fix the speed and
stability bug reports you have submitted? You have submitted bug reports,
right?

I guess build 652
will be the last build that IntelliJ will release.

Why do you guess that?

And right after build
652, I think they will be set to release IDEA 3.0. My company is also

If they have outstanding bug reports about speed issues, do you really think
they'll release 3.0 right after build 652 without fixing the bugs?

I am just wondering wether Intellij is really going to release its product
within 1 1/2 weeks or would they delay their deadline and concentrate on
making the product bugless and releasing a few more builds before the

final

release.

What do you think? Do you really think they'd release a buggy version? And
what if they did release a buggy version? Would you be forced to buy it? Or
might you be able to wait until they released a less buggy version?

I am seeing internal errors and failed assertions on a regular basis in
651. Also, the speed ... I'd like the folks to take all the time they
need to iron these out.

Hi,

I've just downloaded 651, so can't really comment on this release. I find it difficult to imagine it's quality haveing dropped though. I'm currently on 650, and find it fast and stable.

If your company is considering any other platform then they understand nothing at all about software development and the needs of a programmer.

Cheers,

Bryan

Exactly. I too agree with Christian Sell that the guys behind IDEA should
take more time and straighten IDEA 3.0 up before they release it. Build 651
is really slow.

Why do you have any doubt that they will do?
