Having Trouble Creating Project With Sources on MAC

I've started working with PHPStorm just tonight and for some reason, it seems to be very confused when I try to create a project with existing files.

I am running MAMP on my Mac, and so I selected the option that says Create New Project from Existing Files. On the next screen, since my webserver is already working and set up, I choose the very first item "Web Server in installed locally, source files are located under it's document root.

I navigate to the folder where my files are:  Applications->MAMP->htdocs->website, but from there I do not get a "NEXT"  once I get there. This is where the source files all are.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi there,

What is your PhpStorm version?

If 7.x -- please try v8 EAP -- it should be fixed there: PhpStorm EAP

----

As an alternative to trying v8: use "Open Folder" instead and point to project root folder. You can then configure everything else manually (i.e. website URLs etc) via Preferences (Project Settings part).

Thank you Andriy opening via the folder (directory) helped. I was abe to load the files and this automatically made a project. I also configured access to the local MySQL database also.

However, there seems to be an issue with manual configuration:

1) I'd like to configure the remote server where the site is, but can't find where to do this for the project.

2) The system complains that I don't have a PHP interpreter.  I went to "FIX", and navigated to my configuration directory, /Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.5.10/conf  where the php.ini for 5.5 is, and for some reason the system doesn't recognize it. I also included the .../bin subdirectory of 5.5.10 and that didn't work either.

There was an online tutorial for this, but the tutorial doesn't match my version (7.1.4) which is the latest version you get when you download the trial.

I really have never had this much problem configuring an IDE before. Netbeans, Coda and other were a snap.

I'm not a Mac user .. so it's hard to suggest exact path .. but it definitely should be the one where php executable is located. So try "which php" (or whatever the proper command is).

In any case: have you seen this article: 5 Step Tutorial: PHPStorm + MAMP PRO 2 ?

Well .. everyone has a different experience. Sure, when I have launched it for a first time (few years ago -- it was 0.x version) it was so different to any other software I've used before... But I did not had any BIG problems with configuring it. 2-3 months later it felt pretty natural to me (when I've got used to it).

I was finally able to get the interpreter configured and my local server working with PHPStorm.

However, the instructions in the blog and in the help files apparently aren't correct for 7.1.4.

For instance, when I try to configure the project settings, there is no File->Settings. I have File->Default Settings only.  There is not an icon in the main toolbar and the combination of ctrl-alt-S does absolutely nothing. So, I can't get to the project settings at all.

I've tried configuring the remote server, but when I put in the exact same information that's in Filezilla to connect to the FTP site, it fails every time.

Troubles continue.

"File | Settings" is for Windows/Linux. On Mac it uses standard Mac term -- Preferences.

"File | Default settings" is for setting default setting for future new projects -- they will NOT affect ANY of the existing (already configured) projects in any way.

More details please. What idea.log says about it (Help | Show Log in...)?

You may enable extra logging, try to connect and checl log for possible hints: http://devnet.jetbrains.com/docs/DOC-1202
