Idea 5.0 - CVS: "Compare with selected version" is gone?

In Idea 4.x you could goto the CVS menu and select "compare with selected version" and you could put in any tag name or version that you wanted. In Idea 5.0 this option appears to be gone? The "Compare with..." opens a window with the a slimmed down version of the CVS History table... this is a bad UI when you just want to plug in a certain tag......

Is there anyway to get the 4.x functionality in 5.x?

Wow, hadn't found that "little" change but that's a huge PITA for me. We make extensive use of CVS tags - a branch is created and then we add tag labels corresponding to development cycles on the branch, etc. This new UI has no list of tag labels, just branch labels - which means I've got to go translate the tag to the actual file version. I like the list approach but by not including tag names to choose for the comparison, this becomes pretty much worthless and sends me back to WinCVS. Couldn't this dialoge at least be supplemented with the old entry field, or at least list tags??? If you're going to support CVS versioning, and not allow the version to be manually entered, you should be supporting branch, tag and file version number.
Thanks,
Scott

Personally I'd be all for a setting somewhere letting us choose whether we want the new dialog or the old one. The new one is just pointless for me... I can just select "CVS > Show History" if I want to see that and I can right click on any file and choose "compare with local". The list of tags could be massive to try and fit into this UI in a manner that gives us the functionality we had before. I don't want to have to click on each version to pull up a list of all the tags. Seeing as a single version of a file could have 50 or 60 tags I'm not sure how you could easily list them in in a dialog window without them being collapsed.

yes, of course I agree - the list could be huge. I was simply pointing out that without tag labels it becomes worthless for me as we use tags extensively. I don't remember the actual file version a tag is associated with and if I have to go to another tool like WinCVS for that, I might as well stay in WinCVS. I don't like this new window at all. First, I don't understand why they'd introduce an "automatic" window - everywhere else you get a modal dialogue with OK/Cancel buttons. And, as I say, if they want to list everything, fine - but give me the ability to enter directly as well - in my case, I almost always need to compare my current work against the last tag, which will be well after the branch. So, in the old interface, I'd enter a tag name. Anyway, sounds like we're in the same boat - an important piece of functionality that was simple and effective - replaced with an ill-conceived automation that sacrifices significant funtionality. Sometimes when things aren't broken you really should leave them alone.

I'm missing it also. I usually diff HEAD against release or vice versa. I have separate project for HEAD and release. Before "Compare with selected version" the dialog remembered last entered value and I did not have to think and search for what I want, just hit enter.
