External tool that I use to open a file in explorer (assigned shortcut key
control-alt-e). Resident in config/tools directory. You can also create it
in parameters in Settings -> External Tools.

See screenshot if you want to use the GUI to configure.
I added option "/e" to show the folders tree.

Does anyone know how to start a windows command line in a new window?
The best that I have achieved is to embed the command line in Idea's
console. Which is kind of funny, but character encoding is wrecked and
command history does not work.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<toolSet>
<tool name="Explorer" description="Open explorer window (prepend /e to
show the tree)" showInMainMenu="true" showInEditor="true"
showInProject="true" showInSearchPopup="false" disabled="false"
useConsole="false" synchronizeAfterRun="false">
<exec>
<option name="COMMAND" value="explorer" />
<option name="PARAMETERS" value="/select,$FilePath$" />
<option name="WORKING_DIRECTORY" />
</exec>
</tool>
</toolSet>

Thank you very much for your reply.
Still, the shortcut doesn't work.
Where should the shortcut be configured?

Open Console: off (on for tests: seeing what command line idea is executing)

Program: cmd.exe
Parameters: /c start cmd.exe
Work Dir: $FileDir$

Seems to work here. Couldn't give a title to the new console, as the double
quotes are eaten by idea.
