How will PHP Storm help my migration project

My PHP experience is a bit out of date because I've been developing mainly commercial C++ applications and Java for the last few years.  Now I have to migrate an old PHP 5.1.6 site to PHP 5.5 so I started playing with PHP Storm (I use IntelliJ a lot), I haven't found any particular functionality in PHP Storm that is going to make it any easier for me to migrate the site, compared to if I just used Eclipse or NetBeans which are both free.  Have I missed something?

Hi there,

1) PhpStorm supports PHP 5.3 and above only.

2) What kind of support do you expect?

Would be nice to have some kind of scripted migration tool etc to assist in updating the code.

If the answer is "nothing" then that's fine. I'm deciding if I should purchase PHPstorm for this project instead of using Eclipse or NetBeans. If there is no specific functionality in PHPStorm to assist me then it's hard for me to justify the expense.

Thanks for your response.

Updating what? Examples please (from -> to).

It's still PHP 5.x code after all (not 4.x to 5.x) -- everything still should work just fine, except possibly few deprecated (and no longer available) functions/extensions (which IDE can warn you about if corresponding inspection is enabled).

But in any case: there is no automatic stuff like that currently available. Even converting from array() to [] is "semi-automatic"

Yes I have over 500 files to migrate and not ime to do it so the array changes alone are going to take a load of time.Smarty needs to be updated which requires another load of changes.

Anyway thanks for your responses, basically the answer is that PHPStorm does really give me much more assistance than Eclipse or NetBeans, which is fine.
