No Auto-Save when Switching Tabs / Storm Instances

Has it always been the case, that Storm only auto saves files when you actually leave the application i.e. active a non Storm window? I just nearly went crazy because I just assumed the saves happened every time I go to a different tab or Storm window but they didn't. And I didn't know where the application gets it's code from because after I commented everything out it was still working. Storm was the last place I was going to look...

Has this behaviour changed?

I've not used OS X regularly for long. Maybe it's different und Windows?

edit: Thanks for clarifying that for me Andriy!

Hi there,

Yes, auto save occurs when you leave IDE window (if corresponding option is set, of course).

I just nearly went crazy because I just assumed the saves happened every time I go to a different tab or Storm window but they didn't.

No -- it does NOT auto save when you switch tabs/projects .. but it can when you do something special without leaving IDE, for example:

  • you have File Watcher (that watches current file) and it is configured to run after file gets modified (approx 1 second after you type any character) instead of waiting until it will actually be saved. Here that file will be auto saved before file watcher's execution.
  • you run/re-run any Run/Debug configuration
  • you execute command in built-in Terminal (only since recent IDE versions) (and maybe Command Line Tool Support window)
  • etc (e.g. Live Edit ?)
