How to interrogate an XML file?

This question is probably better off in the openapi list, but I'll ask here since I need it in a J2ee context...

I need to progrmatically read the app.xml file to figure out the context roots for the webapps in it. What's the best way of doing so? I can get at the descriptor and XmlDataOwner, but am somewhat lost after that...

I use psi xml support for similar things. j2ee dom support is useful if you
want to manipulate some complex objects
