.BAR files with Apache Avalon and Idea 3.0

I am trying to build a project (Jakarta James mail server) that uses various
other Apache/Jakarta components. One of then is Avalon-Cornerstone, which
uses a design pattern of "blocks". It seems that they use an archive name
that I have never seen before. They store their java code in .bar files
(block archives).

I need to be able to add this .bar file into the classpath in order for my
project to compile. Right now, Idea (3.0, build 676) doesn't recognize it,
and only adds the other .jar files that I use.

I haven't found much documentation on these .bar files, but it seems to be
just a .jar with an extension of .bar. If I rename it to .jar, I can view
it with Winzip and it contains all the classes.

Is there a way (besides renaming it) to have IDEA support this .bar file?

Right now I get "class does not exist" errors for the classes located in the
.bar file.

Thanks,

Tom
