Dazed and confused

I'm trying very hard to figure out how the web stuff works in the latest eap (977) but am completely baffled. I've given up on EJB for now, but I figure web stuff should at least vaguely work.

I can specify a web app in project properties. No matter how long I stare at the module config crap, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to tie a webapp to a module.

Now, this wouldn't bother me usually. However, when trying to run any webapps, IDEA kindly says 'Module not set - set web module for this configuration'. This seems to imply that it should be possible to create a module of type web. Anyone got any hints as to how i might accomplish this amazing feat?

As an aside, the module stuff in general still seems to be a complete and utter mess of incoherency and severely crippled/buggy/incomplete. Is it still a work in progress or should I provide a list of why it's being so annoying to work with?

Hani,

The short and sweet answer is that in 977 web apps can't be tied to
modules, I've been begging for this for a while. In 992 they've added web
modules, but they don't work at all.

In 977 I simply did not delete the default module IDEA adds, I put all the
info I needed in there, including src and resouce dirs, then I made sure
web app support was turned on for the project. I added a web app and
pointed the webapp to the webroot, which usually is the directory where
WEB-INF is, and hopefuly your web.xml too. Once that's set, I create a
run configuration of webapp type, and make sure that I choose the webapp I
setup in there, I use Tomcat 5, it seems to be the most reliable plugin so
far. Press run and go.

Well, web modules work well enough so they can be run. With the orion plugin, all you need to do is create the web module (don't worry about all the other crap in that panel like paths and suchlike), and just hit run and it'll work.

The web.xml editor is a bit of a mess currently, but hopefully it'll clear up in the next few builds.

Same here, web stuff in general has been incredibly frustrating in this
particular EAP.
