webstorm chrome extensions don't install on Windows8

Hi
I've got windows8 64-bit. I'm trying to install Chorme extensions. I get th green box about "if not please follow this procedure". I click on the link and i get
"Windows cannot find 'C:\Users\<myname>\Local Settings\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe - make sure you've typed the name correctly then try again.

This is not surprising because in Window 8 google chrome installs into C:\users\<username>\AppData\Local\Google\Application

is there a way around this?

Hi there,

On Windows 7/Vista the "C:\Users\<myname>\Local Settings\" folder is just a hidden symbolic link (or something like that) and it is there just for compatibility reasons (so the old Windows XP apps can still work). There are quite a few of such links: My Documents, Application Data, Cookies, NetHood, PrintHood, SendTo, Start Menu etc etc.

I have no idea if such links still present in Win8 (accordignly to your message I guess it is not the case, but I would still expect it to be there).

is there a way around this?

I may only suggest creating such symbolic link yourself:  C:\Users\<myname>\Local Settings\ --> C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\

You can use standard mklink command or find some GUI tool for that (for example: Link Shell Extension -- may work on Windows 8: http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/hardlinkshellext.html )

P.S.
Maybe still worth reporting the issue to the Issue Tracker ?

Can someone post instructions on how to fix this problem?

The issue is solved for v6 -- the browser extension is now installed directly from Google Web Store: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/jetbrains-ide-support/hmhgeddbohgjknpmjagkdomcpobmllji

Yes, webstorm chrome extension is installed but I am still getting the error: (when I try to debug)

"Windows cannot find 'C:\Users\<myname>\Local  Settings\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe - make sure you've typed  the name correctly then try again.

Settings | Web Browsers -- provide full correct path for the Chrome browser there
